Important Security Update: Plex Data Breach – What You Need to Do

|

We want to inform you that Plex recently experienced a data breach that may affect your account security. An unauthorized third party accessed a limited subset of customer data, which included email addresses, usernames, hashed passwords, and authentication data.

Here’s what Plex advises:

  • Reset your Plex password immediately by visiting https://plex.tv/reset.
  • Be sure to check the “Sign out connected devices after password change” box—this ensures anyone currently logged in will be signed out.
  • If you log in using Single Sign-On (SSO), go to https://plex.tv/security and click “Sign out of all devices”.
  • Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for added protection, if you haven’t already.
  • Importantly, Plex does not store credit card information, so financial data were not compromised.

At Harding Helpdesk, we always prioritize your online safety. In light of this breach, we strongly recommend using a trusted password manager to secure and simplify your account protection. Our preferred choice is LastPass, which helps you:

  • Generate and store strong, unique passwords for every service.
  • Automatically fill in login details securely across devices.
  • Reduce the risk of password reuse and credential theft.

What You Can Do Today:

  1. Reset your Plex password now and sign out from all devices.
  2. Enable 2FA on your Plex account.
  3. Download and set up LastPass if you haven’t already started using one—trust us, it’s user-friendly and a game-changer for your security.
  4. Stay vigilant for phishing attempts—Plex will never ask for your password or payment info via email.

Thank you for trusting Harding Helpdesk to keep you informed and secure. If you need help with resetting passwords, enabling 2FA, or setting up LastPass, we’re here to assist—just reach out!

Stay safe,
